Welcome to the  Northern California Family Dog Rescue website!  FDR was started in January of 2010 by a group of dedicated animal rescuers with years of experience in a variety of animal welfare organizations.  We are a 501(c)(3) tax exempt organization and a California non-profit corporation.  Your donations to us are tax deductible.

We're dedicated to the proper care and socialization of our rescued animals and to making a great connection between dogs and humans!  We know that families with children often have a difficult time adopting rescued and shelter dogs. So we've made it our  special mission to select dogs that do well with with kids and adults.  We encourage families with children to adopt rather than buy from a breeder! 

We currently have an urban shelter in San Francisco, but we also rely heavily on a network of foster homes.  We always need volunteers and the opportunities are endless.  We can accommodate almost any schedule or skill level and need everything from dog walkers and socializers to occasional drivers, helpers at our weekend events and both long and short term foster families.  If you would like to volunteer with us, please fill out our volunteer application or contact us for more information!
