Northern California Family Dog Rescue
FDR's mission is to rescue dogs from SFAnimal Care and Control as well as high kill shelters throughout California and make them available to families of all types including families with children who often have a difficult time adopting from shelters.  FDR believes that companion animals are  powerful tools for breaking down barriers, combating loneliness and isolation, and for  teaching love, respect, tolerance, responsibility and patience. Family Dog Rescue seeks to integrate companion animals into bthe lives of children as well as into the larger life of our communities.

To achieve our mission, we:

1.  Give priority to dogs at San Francisco's public shelter, Animal Care and Control;

2.  Take dogs from overcrowded, high-kill shelters throughout California;

3.  Accept owner-surrender dogs to help reduce the burden on public shelters;

4.  Medically treat and behaviorally rehabilitate all dogs coming into our program, and give potential adopters an accurate and candid  profile of each dog available for adoption;

5.  Encourage families with very young children to adopt a rescue dog, rather than buy from a pet store or a backyard breeder, by selecting dogs for our program who are most likely to be good with children, and closely testing each dog for child-compatibility;

6.  Fund SF SPCA's free cat and dog spay/neuter program in low-income, underserved San Francisco communities;

7.  Fund SF SPCA's low-cost spay/neuter program for San Francisco's cat and dog rescue groups;

8.  Educate the public about the benefits of spay/neuter and humane dog ownership; and,

9.  Assist our rural public shelter partners with spay/neuter education, disease control, and capacity building.
10. Provide opportunities for community building and community participation at our new urban shelter in San Francisco
